The project “Development of Land Resources Information Management System (LRIMS) for Afghanistan” is a part of the collaboration for Strengthening Afghanistan Institutions capacity for monitoring and analyzing of agriculture production systems and development of Land Resources Information Management System (LRIMS) and National Agro-Ecological Zoning (NAEZ) between The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok, Thailand.
The basic idea is that the LRIMS will be built to provide access to GIS data and organize the flow of information (standardized data formats with adequate metadata) on land resources and agricultural information amongst stakeholders. Fundamentally, it will provide the framework for examining and comparing current and future scenarios of cropping patterns under climate and agricultural production inputs based on the model runs of the National Agroecological Zoning (NAEZ) completed by IIASA. It will be easily searchable and accessible from a user-friendly website, and outputs will then be delivered as services throughout the web to unlimited numbers of users (granted that users can access information under set conditions and various authorizations). Based on the authorization level, users will be able to perform several actions such as creating and deleting users/datasets, visualization, data download, print, update data, etc. for the available scenarios in the portal.
